As crazy as it may sound, one of the most notorious communities in the Web Hosting space over recent years has been this one.

They started out as a site called Summerhoax. This was meant to make fun of bad Hosts (known as “Summer Hosts” or “Frozen Winter Hosts”).

After it got too toxic and chaotic, Summerhoax decided to shut down the site and forum, on 05 July, 2020.

Winterhoax

Winterhoax was opened two days later by a guy from Germany known as Dziaod (a.k.a. Sloth), and another guy known as AYS. It was just a new version of Summerhoax, where people were actually warned about summer hoaxes this time. The first topic on Winterhoax was about Fabithost.

Winterhoax brought new hosts into the spotlight such as FalixNodes, Sryden, Lamaker and his projects, Hye Hosting and more. These memes helped to drive the website to nearly a thousand members and a million page views per month.

Rebrand to Drama.gg

Sloth and AYS continued to run Winterhoax for a while. But it evolved into something unnecessary: The community started using it as a site to expose each other for petty or unrelated things. So to capitalize on this, they decided on a name change. On the 4th of April, 2021, Sloth formally renamed the discord and forum to “Drama.gg”. They adopted the popcorn emoji 🍿 to symbolize the idea of “Wait, let me grab popcorn to watch this unfold”.

The rebranding was an immediate success.

Drama.gg built up a following that quickly rivaled the previous Summer/Winterhoax project. But the original meaning of spreading summer-hoaxes had somewhat been lost.

How And Why, We Failed

After about a year, the name had fallen out of favor with much of the community after they got bored and lazy. And some think that Sloth wanted close the site before he passed away in October 2023, which is simply not true.

It began to fail in 2022 because of their own moderators.

Who Was Sloth?

As even his own “friends” admitted, not much was known about him. There were some issues, the site was full of bad people, so he decided to slow down Drama.gg and start a new site called EXYQ. He said at the time:

Yea. [It’s been up since] summer 2020. I honestly miss the simpler days back when it was just this community absolutely bullying lamaker and the other emos, or shitting on Sparked Host and getting DMCA’d by them. I miss 2021 when I was still 16, not ill, this was still Winterhoax and lamaker was getting dissed.

After Sloth basically handed over the domain to me, I decided to reboot this website and take over his legacy.

Ultimate Drama: KUBBUR

One of the things that started the slow downward trend was the failure of KUBBUR.COM - Drama.gg’s favorite host that one of the mods worked for, that they heavily promoted.

Kubbur’s clients were bought from CEO Leifur Gunnarsson by known scammer Ellis Woolard (which may have even violated data protection laws) to move them to Ellis’ own host called Kuxo, which was a rebrand of a host called System413.

The result was not just the best drama of 2022, but in my opinion, some of the best drama in history.

But it got worse. When their servers were pulled offline without warning, and then Kuxo was quickly “sold” to some Pakistani (who probably doesn’t even exist) and shut down as well, all the clients had nowhere to go and were deleted.

They quickly came under fire. KUBBUR was branded as another exit-scam host that did not implement proper warnings to their customers, then left them high & dry.

Drama.gg is back to become a trustworthy source of Hosting Drama

So why bring up KUBBUR?

Because it was not very well known.

The KUBBUR Episode was the biggest Host-Related Drama in 2022, probably the biggest drama ever, right under their noses. Yet it was not even officially covered on Drama.gg. It was left to be covered on LowEndTalk, because the community did not care.

The point to be made is that they were slowly letting this site go to waste.

A True Drama Event.

It’s time for a change. We’re relaunching.

We need Drama.gg to have “Prosumers” (not “Journalists”, who I hate), and people looking for new leads. Big ones that match the KUBBUR drama in scope and intensity. The site will be hosted competently and with the right mission. The threads will be hosted forever… Meaning that if you have a thread on you or your company, this shit is going to stay on the internet forever.

There’s been a fair amount of backlash during this relaunch.
Someone even DDoS’d our web servers, which delayed the launch and opening registration.

They don’t want to run it anymore - they don’t even want it to exist.

There’s clearly issues with the site as it was, it devolved into stupid crap and was held back by a bad community for too long. But that’s what we’re going to change.

The old community is an unforgiving one, and it’s completely understood. They all banned and shunned me for annoying the team by speaking the truth. But Sloth was always cool to me.

Mistakes were made. I should have just made the meme, but like, I spent too much time writing some retarded satire article that wasn’t even meant to make the reader laugh, but rather designed to make me laugh at the reader.

Really irresponsible behavior on my part.

My (now closed) host – System413 – was exposed on Drama.gg because a development licence was being used on a production site, the actions of Ellis who worked with me, as well as my lack of condemning the issues. Taking the heat for someone else and having my brand’s reputation ruined, was that even fair?
YES. I didn’t do enough to stop him.

My getting even and posting a bunch of nonsense to try to troll the old community for this, was it fair?
YES, AND WE’RE GOING TO KEEP DOING IT.

But why such hate? Why such anger?
Honestly, Dramaggi.sbs was the wrong move. Going against the tide will never bring recovery into this community. Drama.gg itself symbolizes the actions of the people revolting against it for being exposed. This time we will achieve this again, TOGETHER.

We don’t want to make this about copying a past success. This is a brand-new project, purely Community-Driven. It’s time to make things right, with the right surroundings and people, a new generation of “host busters”, re-forming as group of Prosumers. We will have an improved design, more features and a new team with no kids running it. There will be new members and new scams to cover, better than before.

Sloth said Drama is over, I say it has just begun to take its stage. Let’s flip WinterHost back to SummerHost, Let’s flip Drama.gg. Let’s show the community what real busting looks like.
