HostFusion, and more specifically, the owner should simply not be trusted.
They have been known for DDoSing, getting people to DDoS for them, Doxxing, and more on top of the previously mentioned things in this thread. They effectively forced a user to take down their negative Trustpilot review by doxxing their private and personal information in the reply.
I personally find it hard to trust someone with great and powerful “DDoS protection” when they actively DDoS themselves. The main source of their “DDoS protection” is indeed external providers, though they do have filters in place.
I also doubt that they own their hardware, given many of their nodes are from external providers (such as Xentain) - though do keep in mind that Xentain does offer colocation so this is not a guarantee, it is a speculation.
